# L03 · The porter's account of a quiet platform

Chapter 1 · last-transfer-r1

Statement of porter Tomas Reed, taken 8 November 1931. Witness recollection, not a continuous custody record.

'I took the train cases out myself. There were two. I saw the other iron case through the glass when I brought back the trolley. The public lamp went out at twenty past. I left through the yard at twenty-two past. I saw no further case leave while I was there. I thought the iron one must have stayed the night.'

Reed does not claim to have watched the station after 00:22. His last sentence is his inference. The interviewer has underlined 'while I was there'.
