THE NIGHT DISPATCH / N01
The envelope beneath the bell
Dispatch cover
The bell was taken down at dusk. Beneath its bracket lay an envelope addressed to the next reader, not the next clerk. Three hands had tried to close it. One wrote a crate number. One wrote a weekday. One left a blank where the counter should have been.
The envelope calls its contents the Night Dispatch. It borrows three questions from the earlier shelves, but none of their authority may be borrowed carelessly. R-441 identifies the load. O-01 and O-08 delimit the orchard evidence. T-208 identifies the counter. Each receipt keeps its own jurisdiction.
There are twelve leaves. The last is folded behind a three-part seal. Read the carrier, the counter and the gap; then decide what the desk may authorize. A dispatched instruction is not proof of a completed journey.
